The Spain-India Tribune is a joint initiative of Casa Asia, Casa de la India and the Indian Council of World Affairs (ICWA).
Casa Asia’s Tribunes consist of multi-sector meetings and interdisciplinary dialogues, held by civil society and government leaders from two different countries. They have a roundtable format that encourages the debate between the parts.
The Spain-India Tribune is a joint initiative of Casa Asia, Casa de la India and the Indian Council of World Affairs (ICWA), and has the support and collaboration of the Spanish Ministry for Foreign Affairs, the Indian Ministry for Foreign Affairs, the Embassy of Spain in India, the Embassy of India in Spain and the Spain-India Council Foundation. This year, the Tribune also benefited from the support of an institutional and commercial delegation from the Basque Country, led by the Lehendakari, President of the Basque Government (Chief Minister),and participated by 80 Basque entrepreneurs, that visited India during the dates of the dialogue forum.
The sixth edition of the Spain-India Tribune took place in Delhi on the 21st and 22nd of March 2012 and it revolved around the following themes: 'Perspective in evolving political-economic order in Asia and Europe', 'Political strategic development in North Africa, West Asia and the Indian Ocean', 'Global trade, financial institutions, currency issues and monetary policies', 'Key factors of economic competitiveness, major infraestructure projects and energy' and 'Knowledge and culture'.
The support of the Spain-India Council Foundation resulted in the participation in the economic panel of the Secretary General of the Foundation, José Eugenio Salarich, who chaired and moderated a session focused on the international economic and financial situation and possible ways of collaboration between Spain and India to deal with the crisis. Also, the Foundation offered the closing luncheon to all participants of the Tribune, as well as the Basque companies that had accompanied the Lehendakari and the Indian counterparts of the various sectors of the Patrons.
Parallel to the Tribune, the Foundation facilitated, with the mediation of the Ambassador of India in Madrid, a strategic meeting between the most important Spanish companies in India and the Vice President of the Planning Commission of the Indian government, Mr. Ahluwalia.
During this Tribune, the Observatory of India and South Asia of Casa Asia was also presented, which, with the support of the Spain-India Council Foundation, aims to become the electronic portal of reference in the field of the relations between both countries.
