XII Board meeting of the Spain India Council Foundation

Alonso Dezcallar is appointed new Secretary General and Antonio Escámez will step down as Chairman once his term comes to an end

SICF’s Board meeting took place on December 19 at the headquarters of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation and was attended by the Director General for North America and Asia-Pacific of the Ministry, Ernesto de Zulueta, as well as the Ambassador of India to Spain, Sunil Lal. Two representatives of the Vicente Ferrer Foundation were also invited to attend.

During the meeting, Alonso Dezcallar was appointed Secretary General following the departure of Manuel Cacho, who in turn was appointed Ambassador on Special Mission for the candidacy of Spain to the UN Security Council. Alonso Dezcallar is a career diplomat and was Ambassador of Spain to Mauritania, as well as holding different positions at the Embassies in Morocco, Uruguay, Peru and Italy. He was also Deputy Director at the Minister’s Cabinet and held various positions at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation.

The Board also announced that Antonio Escámez will soon step down as Chairman after holding the position since SICF was created in 2009, as his four-year term is nearly over. A new chairman will be proposed at an extraordinary meeting, to be convened soon. New patrons and representatives took up seats on the Board, such as Jausas Legal y Tributario.

The Board said it was pleased with the activities carried out by the Foundation throughout the year, such as the meeting with the CEO of the Delhi-Mumbai Industrial Corridor, Amitabh Kant, and the organisation of a seminar on India’s legal and financial framework for internationalisation. The Plan of Action for 2014 was also approved, which includes, in addition to regular activities like the Leaders Programme, other initiatives including the 1st Spain-India Forum and a special training programme at universities and business schools and internships at Spanish companies for Indian students.
