The Indian Leaders tasted a selection of the region’s best-known wines
The agenda in Valladolid came to an end with a tour and lunch at Abadía Retuerta Le Domaine, a luxury resort on the Ribera del Duero designation of origin area which opened two years ago. The hotel that hosts the Abadía Retuerta winery is an impressive project designed by architect Marco Serra at a 12th-century abbey which is designated an asset of cultural interest (Bien de Interés Cultural) and which blends Romanesque and Baroque elements. For the abbey’s new use, the present occupants have been particularly careful to respect the original structure, so much so that the original uses have been respected. As an example, the rooms are the same cells that monks used to sleep in back in the day.
The Indian Leaders had the chance to visit most of the facilities and took a special interest in the ‘cave’ where Abadía Retuerta holds the winery’s special collection. Lunch was cooked by Pablo Montero, a chef trained by Andoni Luis Aduriz (two Michelin stars) and the wines served were Blanco Le Domaine 2012, Barco del Corneta 2012, Abadía Retuerta Selección Especial 2010 and Prince St. Aubin 2010.
