The Secretary General for Defence Policy, Alejandro Alvargonzález, received the Indian Leaders at the Ministry of Defence
Spain’s defence policy and its strategic position as a bridge between two continents were among the main topics discussed at the meeting between the Indian Leaders and Alejandro Alvargonzález, Spain’s Secretary General for Defence Policy. They also discussed issues such as cybersecurity, the threat of nuclear armament, terrorism, immigration and India’s role as the world’s fourth largest military power. The meeting was run very smoothly, with an interesting exchange of opinions that made it abundantly clear that in our increasingly global world, and “despite the distance”, Spain and India face shared challenges, as the Secretary of State explained, adding that “we have to work to find shared solutions”.
The Indian government considers Spain a trusted partner in building a lasting relationship in security and defence policy, driven mainly by the quality and performance of our military industry and our construction of military ships and aircraft for countries like Norway and Australia. Alejandro Alvargonzález told the Leaders about the Indian government’s interest in acquiring some of this equipment and in signing long-term MRO agreements with Spanish military technology consultants.
