Working Paper 5: Science, technology and innovation

Relations in science, innovation and technology between Spain and India have been based, from the beginning, on mutual interest and commitment, given the importance they have for both countries and the synergies offered by bilateral collaboration. The framework agreement for cooperation in science and technology of 2007 is the umbrella under which the bilateral commission on Science, Technology and Innovation is celebrated, and where the initiatives and specific collaboration programs in science and technology between both countries are anchored. The role of science and technology as a pillar of our bilateral relations was confirmed in 2017, when innovation was included as one of the four fundamental pillars of the APCI. The 40 joint projects financed by the Indo-Spanish Innovation Program, the success of the Spanish participation in the H2020 program of the European Union with India and the several cases of business technology partnership between both countries are examples of the success of the bilateral technological alliance that opens a new frontier of collaboration in digital economy.

In this document we analyze the dimension of dialogue, cooperation and bilateral science-technology diplomacy; the European funding window for collaboration and mobility between Spain and India; the global importance of health and pharmaceutical cooperation and research against COVID 19; collaboration in innovation as a pillar of bilateral technological and industrial development; the bilateral alliance in biotechnology and renewable technologies for sustainable growth; and the digital and information technology opportunity in the post-COVID 19 context.
